Asheville Christian Academy splits pair of state championships

Asheville Christian Academy defeated Gaston Christian School for the NCISAA 3A State Championship.

SWANNANOA - Two playoff runs came to an end on Saturday.

After starting the season with eight straight losses, Asheville Christian Academy finished with a 74-68 win over Gaston Christian School to win the NCISAA Class 3A state title. Collin Mills finished with a game-high 25 points as De'Ante Green and Christian Andrews finished with 18 and 13, respectively.

The unseeded lions opened the postseason with three-straight wins over ranked opponents, including victories over top-seeded Concord Academy and High Point Christian Academy en route to the title game. 

Only trailing in the opening minute, the Lions led by 12 in the third quarter before winning the championship in the fourth.

Girls basketball

Earlier in the day, top-seeded ACA met Concord academy in a 2019-20 state championship rematch.

Despite a push into overtime, the Lions fell to Concord Academy 58-57.
